Reality: Felt sluggish and a little stiff this morning. With this in mind, I cut it down to 5 miles at a recovery pace. Better to sense one's body than to injure oneself at this point. At least that is what I am saying for now.

Yes listening to your body is important, says the person who generally doesn't ;-)
I haven't in the past either and to be truthful, it is only through getting bitten that I have learned a lesson. Better to arrive at the start line @ 80% and healthy than to not arrive at all.
