Tempo #1 - almost according to plan

I had set out to run 9 miles today. A 2 mile warmup, followed by a 5 mile tempo run at 6:50 min / mile, followed by a 2 mile cool down. It almost went according to plan... the particulars follow here:

2 miles warm up, 5 miles at 6:54 min / mile, 2 miles cool down. The excuse I am making for myself for not hitting 6:50 on the tempo part of my run is that it was -18 degrees celsius when I ran, as well as, 4:30 am. That said, I am reasonably happy with th effort as it was my first tempo run of the year and my first serious run in terms of getting ready for Boston.

Excuses, excuses. ;)

In -18C weather and at 4:30am. Not too shabby. If you were running in any kind of snow at all—anything other than dry asphalt—then you should give yourself those four seconds per mile.

But seriously, dude, 4:30am? I didn't even know there was a 4:30am.

4:30, the only time I am guaranteed to be uninterrupted. Crazy but true. As well, my risk of getting run down is seriously lowered.

Yeah, but anybody who's driving at 4:30am is either waiting for the coffee to kick in or for the scotch to wear off. Either way, danger. :)

-18ยบ equals dedication! Same for the time stamp, but what do you wear for visibility? I'm thinking fireman's jacket for reflection and a miner's lamp on your head!

Steven - I like your suggestions on visibility. As it turns out, the road I run is fairly well lit... so I just wear reflective clothing and an armband that has a light that blinks on and off.
